Pomegranate

I planted this Pomegranate bush last year. Since then it has more than tripled in size, despite the fact that I totally neglected to water it over the scorching summer months. I have the Florida summer thunderstorms to thank for its survival. It hasn’t bloomed yet but I read that it takes anywhere from 1 to 2 ½ years for a new bush to bloom and then another 5 to 7 months for the fruit to ripen. I wish I could speed things up…but since that’s impossible to do I guess I will just have to be patient and wait.

My Fall Garden

Fall is hear...and that means its time to start my veggie garden again. Last year only my cucumbers and tomatoes did well...but that's because I planted the more delicate veggies too early and the blazing summer sun fried them all up. This year I waited until mid October to plant the carrots, radishes, lettuce, peas, kohlrabi and spinach...hopefully I will have something yummy to show for it :)

I'm Back :)

Hmmmmmmm there must be something about October that puts me in the mood for blogging :) It was last October that I first started this blog....only to eventually stop archiving the daily events of my family...I think the pressure of feeling like I needed to post a picture for every day got to me, so I gave up completely. But I'm going to give it another go....this time instead of a "daily" blog I do my best to post at least once a week. Hopefully I can stick with it this year :)

Day 127: Sea World Sunday

We went to Sea World today. Dan's sister Michelle and their cousin Patricia met us there with their kiddies. I managed to get this one in a million shot of all the girl cousins actually standing still and looking at the camera...not only that but the just so happened to arrange themselves in order from oldest to youngest without any help from me.

Day 119: Sucked In

About 3 weeks ago my friend offered to lend me the book Twilight. I was doubtful about how much reading I would be able to do with two kids and a DVR full of reality tv to watch each day, but I've heard only wonderful things about this book and decided to give it a try. It took me only 2 days to finish Twilight and I quickly moved on to the second book in the series...New Moon. Now I'm half way thru book 3...Eclipse and I have to say I look forward to it more than my daily television fix...something I didn't think was possible. I can't wait until its time for Anya to go to bed each night so that I can sit with her while she falls asleep and read my book.

In addition...our Yard Sale to day was very successful. Most of the people who stopped by were very friendly. But it didn't go totally smooth due to the dreaded hagglers. It went something like this:

Haggler: How much? (Holding up a pair of Doc Martin shoes)

Me: One dollar

Haggler: 50 Cent

Me: One dollar (Smiling but feeling rattled)

Haggler: 50 Cent

At this point my husband steps in and takes over. He doesn't back down like I was about to do and gets the dollar in the end. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a fan of confrontation of any kind and avoid it at all costs...even if it means letting people take advantage of me. Lucky for me I have my wonderful husband who I can always count on to help me out in any situation... he is my voice :) So anyway that wasn't anything compared to what happen during the last sale of the day. It was 11:30 and since I still had a ton of baby girl clothes left I decided to offer a deal..."all you can fit in one plastic grocery bag for only $10". I didn't mind if the bag was slightly overflowing... but nothing ridiculous. So the two young women and one man who were together started packing the bag. Within minutes it was apparent it was getting a little out of hand... they had about 3 bags worth of clothing stacked on top of one heaping bag full and a ton of clothes under their arms and they still weren't thur. It was obvious that they were going to try and get it all for $10. At that point I made my escape into the house and let Dan deal with the situation. As I was leaving I heard him offer them another bag. The rest I observed while peeking out the window. Within a minute I saw Dan stomping up the driveway and into the garage...he had been raking the grass and he put down the rake and picked up a stick from an old broom. He proceeded to walk back down the driveway with the stick over his shoulders. He later told me that the people were speaking in another language and pretending they didn't understand him. He said he felt threatened because he was outnumbered and the man kept creeping on him while the women were going thru the clothes. Luckily it didn't get out of hand and they ended up leaving with two and a half bags full for $25. They wanted more but Dan made them leave it. He took their license plate number down... just in case our house gets vandalized tonight. But hopefully that won't be the case.

Day 118: Saturday Sale

We're having a yard sale tomorrow morning and I just finished painting 8 signs to place in the neighborhood. I'm still not feeling too hot but its A LOT better compared to the past week... and although I would love nothing more than to sleep in tomorrow morning that is just not possible since Kayla has been looking forward to this for WEEKS. We've had to postpone our sale two weeks in a row... first due to cold weather and then because Kayla and Anya were getting sick last weekend. So tomorrow is the big day and Kayla is soooooooooooo excited.

Day 117: In PAIN!!!!

After over a week of suffering with a terrible Flu the end is finally in sight! Thanks to the painful ear infection that has my right ear feeling like its full of water...my OBGYN prescribed this wonderful Z-pack. It might have spared me a week of suffering if he would have just done that to begin with when I went in to see him with what I thought was Strep throat last Thursday... but he didn't and as a result I've been feeling like crap all week. Luckily it will only get better from here on...once the medicine kicks in... unless my ear drum explodes before then (which it feels like its about to do). So I'm just waiting for any hint of relief from this terrible pain... but no such luck so far... its only feeling worse by the minute. Next time the girls start coughing I swear I'm going to quarantine them to their rooms!!!!
