Day 119: Sucked In
About 3 weeks ago my friend offered to lend me the book Twilight. I was doubtful about how much reading I would be able to do with two kids and a DVR full of reality tv to watch each day, but I've heard only wonderful things about this book and decided to give it a try. It took me only 2 days to finish Twilight and I quickly moved on to the second book in the series...New Moon. Now I'm half way thru book 3...Eclipse and I have to say I look forward to it more than my daily television fix...something I didn't think was possible. I can't wait until its time for Anya to go to bed each night so that I can sit with her while she falls asleep and read my book.
In addition...our Yard Sale to day was very successful. Most of the people who stopped by were very friendly. But it didn't go totally smooth due to the dreaded hagglers. It went something like this:
Haggler: How much? (Holding up a pair of Doc Martin shoes)
Me: One dollar
Haggler: 50 Cent
Me: One dollar (Smiling but feeling rattled)
Haggler: 50 Cent
At this point my husband steps in and takes over. He doesn't back down like I was about to do and gets the dollar in the end. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a fan of confrontation of any kind and avoid it at all costs...even if it means letting people take advantage of me. Lucky for me I have my wonderful husband who I can always count on to help me out in any situation... he is my voice :) So anyway that wasn't anything compared to what happen during the last sale of the day. It was 11:30 and since I still had a ton of baby girl clothes left I decided to offer a deal..."all you can fit in one plastic grocery bag for only $10". I didn't mind if the bag was slightly overflowing... but nothing ridiculous. So the two young women and one man who were together started packing the bag. Within minutes it was apparent it was getting a little out of hand... they had about 3 bags worth of clothing stacked on top of one heaping bag full and a ton of clothes under their arms and they still weren't thur. It was obvious that they were going to try and get it all for $10. At that point I made my escape into the house and let Dan deal with the situation. As I was leaving I heard him offer them another bag. The rest I observed while peeking out the window. Within a minute I saw Dan stomping up the driveway and into the garage...he had been raking the grass and he put down the rake and picked up a stick from an old broom. He proceeded to walk back down the driveway with the stick over his shoulders. He later told me that the people were speaking in another language and pretending they didn't understand him. He said he felt threatened because he was outnumbered and the man kept creeping on him while the women were going thru the clothes. Luckily it didn't get out of hand and they ended up leaving with two and a half bags full for $25. They wanted more but Dan made them leave it. He took their license plate number down... just in case our house gets vandalized tonight. But hopefully that won't be the case.

Day 118: Saturday Sale
We're having a yard sale tomorrow morning and I just finished painting 8 signs to place in the neighborhood. I'm still not feeling too hot but its A LOT better compared to the past week... and although I would love nothing more than to sleep in tomorrow morning that is just not possible since Kayla has been looking forward to this for WEEKS. We've had to postpone our sale two weeks in a row... first due to cold weather and then because Kayla and Anya were getting sick last weekend. So tomorrow is the big day and Kayla is soooooooooooo excited.
